BIOGRAPHY

Zeke Virant is a composer and writer living in New York City. A recent graduate of Bard College, Zeke studied music and writing under Kyle Gann, Marina Rosenfeld, Richard Teitelbaum and Joan Retallack. While at Bard, Zeke wrote and directed two operas, “How To Look at the Ocean (Now I am a Flower)” and “Bottles, Nails, and Tambourines.” In addition to his work in opera, Zeke has composed electronic music and pieces for chamber ensembles and symphony orchestras.  His orchestral suite, “Who Knows What You Are, Anyway?” was performed in May 2009 by the American Symphony Orchestra as part of Bard’s senior student composers series. Since moving to Brooklyn in the summer of 2009, he has premiered a new operetta, “Susie and Mark” at the Univerisity of the Streets, and the play/opera, "Tydrus the Twit." In addition to composing new music, Zeke currently plays and tours with Sam Buck Rosen and Aaron Wistar and practices the art of 1-bit pixel drawing.
